Trigger Point Injections

Trigger point injections release tight, painful “knots” that limit movement and send pain to nearby areas. We use a gentle mix of 5% dextrose with a local anesthetic such as lidocaine or bupivacaine to calm irritated muscle fibers and reset tone. When inflammation is stubborn, a small dose of corticosteroid or B12 may be added.

With live ultrasound guidance we can see the exact muscle layers in real time, reach deep trigger points that dry needling or IMS can miss, and avoid nearby structures. When helpful, brief nerve blocks are used to confirm the pain generator and relax overactive muscles so rehab works better. Results often include less tenderness, better range of motion, and faster progress with physiotherapy.

What trigger point injections may help with

  • Muscle knots and chronic tension that don’t respond to massage, dry needling, or stretching

  • Myofascial pain and adhesions

  • Restricted range of motion from tight or shortened muscle fibers

  • Nerve irritation or compression resulting from overactive or spastic muscles

  • Headaches, neck, shoulder, or back pain linked to muscular tension patterns

Our Approach

  • 1. Consultation

Start with a Consultation. We take a history, perform a focused physical exam, and use bedside ultrasound as needed. If indicated and time permits, a trigger point injection to one area can be provided during the consultation.

  • 2. Procedure day

Most sessions take 15 to 30 minutes depending on the number of regions and whether numbing or nerve blocks are needed. Existing patients can book dedicated trigger point sessions for one region or two regions.

  • 3. Aftercare and follow up

Mild soreness is common for 24 to 48 hours, feel free to use a heat pack. Gentle mobility, hydration, and a short activity taper are usually recommended.
